Chloé Faux is a PhD student in the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University. Her research interests include racialization, visuality, and itinerancy. More specifically, her work examines the convergence itineraries of blackness in Johannesburg, South Africa, where movement is understood on the level of the kinetic as well as the social– the movements of Panafricanism, Black Consciousness, Rastafari, among others —to attend to the way different and differential movement of black bodies “from elsewhere” open up a new palette of significations and articulations of “blackness” that alter the rules of sociality.
